Pietermaritzburg

Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KZN, is situated in the heart of the Natal Midlands.

Founded in 1838, it has grown into being the commercial and industrial centre of the Midlands. Boasting a rich history in both the academic arena, UKZN, and the sporting arena. The city is the home to the oldest soccer club on the African continent and the home of former Springbok and World Cup winner, Joel Stransky, and cricket greats Jonty Rhodes and Kevin Pietersen, amongst others. It is the proud host city to the Dusi Canoe Marathon and the world-famous Comrades Marathon, and the Amashova.

The City is home to a 46-hectare Botanical Gardens and numerous historical buildings ranging in era from Victorian, Edwardian, Indian, and Modern Architecture. The iconic railway station is famous for its brooklace and traditional Maritzburg red brick. Pietermaritzburg is spoilt for choice when it comes to schooling options, ranging from Carter High, Maritzburg College, Epworth, St Anne's, Hilton College, and offers over 60 schools and tertiary education.
